Input

Calling all mommas.......Carson will be moving in to a "big boy" bed in the next month or so in anticipation of #2's arrival. Any suggestions on bed rails/ safety rails? There are freaking tons to choose from and my head is spinning when trying to assess them all. (We are not doing the toddler bed thing and plan to put him directly in to a full bed.)

HELP!

Hey! I'll link the one we have for Ivie's full bed. We don't take advantage of the "hideaway" feature, so I'm not sure how well that works, but we love how these sit up pretty high and pretty much go the length of the bed. So I feel pretty safe with them! We got one for each side of the bed, although she sleeps on the same side every night. They ARE nice in that you can fold them down for sheet-changing. I will tell you that I have some negative memories of putting the stupid things together. But when we finally got them installed, they work great! We still use them, and still will when we move Mac into Ivie's room (or that's the plan, although I might regret it when they start keeping each other awake!). I'd buy them again...

Good luck!

Hey for what its worth, I have found I like the longer hide-away ones the best. I believe mine are Regalla brand. I think I got them at Target. I've been happy with them and they are still holding up well after Lauren has used them 3+ years. We also did the same as you and moved Lauren directly to a full size and then on to a queen when we moved to our new house. We plan to move Blake directly to a queen size as soon as he starts climbing out of his crib which is only days away!

My tip is to not put the bed up on rails yet. Just put the box springs/mattress on the floor. This will allow him to climb in/out easier without you worrying about him falling as far when he tries to escape. We have had Kale's bed like this for quite a while now--and its pushed up against one wall with "consignment sale find" bed rail. So far, it works great. As for keeping him in his room...we put up a baby gate in his doorway at night. For the first few nights, he would come stand at the gate but not try to climb it. After that, I guess he figured it wasn't worth getting out of bed to go stand at the gate and gave up. A few nights lately, I haven't had to put the gate up at bedtime.

Glad you got the rails - hope you like them! Tell Nate to "take deep breaths" when reading the instructions. Though I'm thinking he'll be better at that than Dale was. Dale was close to hiring someone to come do it! Ha! I think I was the one that ended up figuring it out. So maybe you should plan on helping Nate, too! :-)
